How to Protect Yourself

You need to be diligent at protecting your sensitive information. We suggest:

  • Create a strong password and do not share it or other login information with anyone. Visit www.us-cert.gov/ncas/tips for helpful information on creating a strong password.
  • Sign up for eStatements to eliminate account information from lying around.
  • Check your accounts through online or mobile banking on a regular basis for unusual activity (don't wait for a monthly statement).
  • Shred any papers that have your personal information on them.
  • Sign up for Online Banking alerts to monitor account changes.
  • Request a free annual credit report at www.annualcreditreport.com from each of the three national credit reporting agencies, even if you don’t suspect any unauthorized activity.  Watch for credit inquiries from unfamiliar companies, accounts you never opened, and unexplained debts.  These can be warnings signs of fraud or identity theft. If you do spot a problem on your credit report, contact the three credit reporting agencies immediately:
    •     Equifax: 1-800-525-6285
    •     Experian: 1-888-397-3742
    •     TransUnion: 1-800-680-7289

How We Protect You

Secure Website. We use the latest, industry-accepted security standards to safeguard your personal information. When you use our Online Banking, your login information is encrypted and protected.

User ID and Password. You create your own Online Banking Username and Password. This information is encrypted during transmission to BNC. To help maintain security, we require you to change your Password routinely. To protect your Online Banking account, do not allow your internet browser to save your Username and Password - maintain this information in a secure manner.

Layered Security. We utilize multi-factor authentication for identifying you during Online Banking login. In addition, we deploy SecureID Tokens to all Business Online Banking users; tokens generate a unique security code that is used at login, providing an additional layer of hacker-resistant security.

Fraud Protection. We monitor your debit card for suspicious activity. If we suspect fraud, our Fraud Center will contact you. If we cannot reach you, we will suspend your card to prevent fraud.

Secure Messaging. We offer secure messaging services through our website and your Online Banking. Use this feature whenever you want to send us confidential information to ensure safety. Regular email is not secure; do not send us confidential information via regular email. Instead, use our secure messaging services or contact us by phone, mail, or in person.
