Q - What is encryption and what level do I need?
A - Encryption rewrites the code in a way that can be decoded later with the right key.  Encryption employs a mathematical process for the key, which is made up of a certain number of bits (ie..40-bit, 128-bit).  The higher the number of bits, the better the encryption.  BNC's encryption is set for 128-bit.  All communication from you to the system and from the system to you is encrypted using a maximum of 128 bits.
